Alba L. Tellez Nieto

Alba Lucero Téllez Nieto is a doctoral candidate in Anthropology at the State University of New York at Albany. Her research focuses on household archaeology, imperial-provincial dynamics, and postcolonial approaches to material culture in Central Mexico. She directs the Proyecto Arqueológico Huazalingo (PAHEH). Alba has conducted archaeological fieldwork across Mexico and Central America and specializes in ceramic and lithic analysis, including compositional studies using Neutron Activation Analysis.

Alba’s work centers on understanding everyday life, local identities, and strategies of resistance in Indigenous communities of the Sierra Madre Oriental. She collaborates closely with communities in Huazalingo, Hidalgo, integrating archaeological research with heritage protection and public outreach. Her approach combines scientific analysis with postcolonial theory to highlight local voices and challenge empire-centered narratives. Beyond fieldwork, she is committed to teaching and mentoring, and to making archaeology accessible through community engagement, education, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
